Dorothy Pye was never the type of person to sit and do
nothing.  That’s why, when her children had grown and
left the house, she needed something to occupy her time.
In 1964, Dot started baking pies for the local restaurants
and campgrounds.  She named them Mrs. Pye’s Pies.
These freshly made fruit pies were a big hit by everyone
that heard of them.  Soon, she was busier than ever
making and delivering them every day.  After a while she
decided to build a small building beside her house and sell
them from there.  She soon added lobster rolls and
beverages to her menu and placed a few tables along the
shore for people to sit and enjoy.  The funny thing was that
no one cared to sit at these tables.  After a short while she
commented to a customer “There are tables by the shore,
wouldn’t you like to go and sit by the water?”  He replied
that he was in the area camping and didn’t care to sit
outside.  Next, she set six small tables up inside.
Immediately they were full with folks waiting outside for a
seat.  Since then several more renovations have been done
to accommodate her loyal customers.  She expanded her
menu with freshly breaded & fried seafood, specialty
seafood casseroles, and many secret recipes such as her
famous lobster stew and clam chowder.  She hired a wait
staff and cooks and dished out the areas best and freshest
seafood around.  For the past forty years, it has been a
long standing tradition for seasonal residents, vacationing
campers, and friendly locals to frequent The Lobster
House restaurant to come and experience a taste of Dot’s
delicious entrees and irresistible desserts.
In the summer of 2004, Dot gave Dawn (her
granddaughter) and I (Dawn's husband) the opportunity to
manage this wonderful restaurant.  It is our goal to
continue this great tradition and serve up the areas best
and freshest seafood.
